Word Biblical Commentary

The Word Biblical Commentary (WBC) delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship.

NOTE The publication history of the WBC series is fairly complex, which may create confusion when trying to track down individual volumes. The series was initially published under the Word Books imprint of Word Publishing (Waco, TX) from its inception in the late 1970's up until 1992. At that point, Thomas Nelson (Nashville, TN) acquired Word Publishing and took over WBC until 2012. Then, Thomas Nelson was acquired by Zondervan's parent company, HarperCollins. WBC moved under the Zondervan Academic imprint shortly after. Since 2013, all volumes in the WBC series have been reprinted by Zondervan Academic (Grand Rapids, MI) and offered in a hardback format (without dust jackets). While continuing to offer the volumes previously published, Zondervan has contracted new volumes and revised editions, with many slated for publication in the coming decade.
