F. F. Bruce (1910–1990) is unquestionably one of the most respected evangelical Pauline scholars of the twentieth century. However, calling him the single greatest Pauline scholar of the modern era would be difficult to defend because several other scholars have made equally significant contributions. F. F. Bruce was particularly influential for his historical approach, careful exegesis, knowledge of the original languages, and commitment to the authority of Scripture. His commentary, The Epistles to the Colossians, to Philemon, and to the Ephesians (NICNT, 1984), is a respected scholarly resource.
