In this addition to the critically acclaimed BECNT series, respected New Testament scholar Jeffrey Weima offers pastors, students, and teachers the most up-to-date and substantive commentary available on 1-2 Thessalonians. Weima, a Thessalonians expert, experienced teacher, and widely traveled speaker, presents well-informed evangelical scholarship at an accessible level to help readers understand the sociological, historical, and theological aspects of these letters. As with all BECNT volumes, this commentary features the author's detailed interaction with the Greek text, extensive research, thoughtful chapter-by-chapter exegesis, and a user-friendly design. It admirably achieves the dual aims of the series--academic sophistication with pastoral sensitivity and accessibility.

I am currently writing a book on The Return of Christ, and have found Weima's commentary on 1-2 Thessalonians to be extremely helpful . . . one of the best we have. I highly recommend this work.

A thorough and impressive heap of words on the Thessalonian epistles. Knowledge of ancient Thessalonica in the intro very interesting and useful. If you want a conversation partner for the Greek text or an recent interpretive history for each passage, then I can't imagine not having this commentary. With that being said, I also can't imagine wading through the 700 pages if it is not. The commentary proper is very thoughtful and well argued for, and there is no doubt some fresh thinking on many issues, though it rarely persuaded this particular reader. I found it useful for preaching, often in sharpening the details of a given topic or subject in a passage. The Apostle's use of the OT in the epistles is wondefully extensive in Weima, but if you have the CNTUOT, then Weima's labors can be found there as well. A solid commentary. Glad to have read it. If you are a pastor who is pressed for much reading time, look to a smaller commentary like Morris and pray with the time you have saved. That should serve you and your people just fine.

Normally I put the BECNT volumes in the semi-technical category, but Weima is a leading expert in Thessalonian scholarship and brings significant depth to his commentary. [Full Review]
