A new commentary for today's world, The Story of God Bible Commentary explains and illuminates each passage of Scripture in light of the Bible's grand story. The first commentary series to do so, SGBC offers a clear and compelling exposition of biblical texts, guiding everyday readers in how to creatively and faithfully live out the Bible in their own contexts. Its story-centric approach is ideal for pastors, students, Sunday school teachers, and laypeople alike.

One only has to read the first few pages of the introduction to realize that Gupta has produced a commentary of rare quality. Fervently faithful and gently corrective. Gupta concentrates on what Paul doesn't say as much as he does on what Paul actually says. He shifts the focus of reading Galatians away from Justification to being crucified with Christ and what it means to live the cruciform life. Accessible and inviting prose. Clear and well articulated arguments. The two and a half pages of quotes in praise of this edition are, no pun intended, fully justified.

Overall, then, this is in my view an excellent readable pastoral commentary on Galatians. There is some more technical stuff going on in the footnotes, but I think Gupta has nailed the SGBC target readership of pastors and ‘normal Christians’. I would recommend this to someone thinking of preaching through Galatians for the first time (alongside Neil Martin’s ‘Galatians Reconsidered’!), and also as a commentary to be used devotionally.
