The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible. Lexham Press, 2016.
the Unseen Realm is one of the best introductions to the spiritual worldview of the Ancient Near East (ANE), and what it means for the Christian faith. A strict two dimensional monotheism is from Ancient Israelite religion, to the modern day is a mis-conception to hurdle, Heiser thoroughly presents the case that the other "gods" or "elohim" that Scripture speaks of are in fact fallen spiritual beings that are opposed to YHWH. Assessing the "weird stories" from the Old Testament that are often glossed over, the divine council worldview as it has been called, helps harmonize what is going on. Staying true to the story of Scripture, and taking into account the worldview of other ANE nations at the time of writing.
This introduction further examines the implications of the spiritual realm for not just our understanding of the Old Testament, but also what it means for modern-day followers of Christ. With realities that touch every part of why Jesus came, and what to do from there, the Unseen Realm will open your eyes to the true nature of the spiritual world, and how we are to best interact with it.
