Married since 1997, father of three children. I studied Bible, Linguistics, Intercultural Relations, Greek and Hebrew during my undergraduate studies at Houghton College. During my first graduate degree, I was able to design my own program in order that I might get the greatest possible focus on Greek New Testament. It was an Interdisciplinary Studies degree combining coursework from the departments of Bible/Theology and Intercultural Studies at Wheaton College Graduate School. My M.A. thesis at Wheaton was on the use of Old Testament allusions to creation and Noah in the Letter of James. I am currently finishing a second M.A. in Applied Linguistics from The Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics. My foci there have been on translation, semantics, and discourse grammar. My thesis is on the interconnection of cognitive semantics and discourse grammar in the Letter of James. Since 2002 I have been working as a field linguist and translation advisor for an 11-language cluster translation project in Papua New Guinea. So far they have translated Jonah, Ruth, Matthew 1-2, Luke 1-2, Genesis 1-11, and Luke 3-24, in that order. We're starting Acts this year. I work most closely with related Onnele languages in the Torricelli family. I also have the occasion each year to teach Greek and NT Exegesis to national and expatriate translators in PNG.
