I warmly commend Jay Sklar’s Leviticus commentary (Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries). It is a model of clarity and accessibility, making a notoriously difficult book understandable and pastorally rich. Sklar shows an admirable sensitivity to cultural issues, helping modern readers appreciate the world of ancient Israel while also applying its theological insights with wisdom and care. I had the privilege of reading the manuscript before publication as a Teaching Assistant, offering feedback from a different cultural context (Hungarian). I was genuinely impressed by how seriously and appreciatively Jay engaged with that feedback – an attitude that shines through in the commentary’s careful, thoughtful exposition. This is an excellent resource for pastors, preachers, and all who want to teach or understand Leviticus with confidence and depth. [Full Review]

I wholeheartedly recommend Jay Sklar’s commentary on Numbers (Story of God Bible Commentary). I read it in the mornings (together with the Hebrew text) throughout the past year, and it proved to be an exceptional companion. Sklar writes with remarkable clarity, consistently illuminating the structure and meaning of the text. He does not shy away from addressing difficult questions, and his explanations are both honest and pastorally sensitive. I was repeatedly struck by the practical and personal relevance he draws out of passages that are often overlooked, showing why Numbers still speaks powerfully today. His careful cultural sensitivity (to both the ancient world and contemporary concerns) greatly enriches the commentary. This volume has deepened my understanding of Scripture and strengthened my faith, and I warmly commend it to pastors, students, and anyone seeking a thoughtful, accessible guide to this important book.
