Richard Blight’s Exegetical Summary of Luke is not really an independent commentary but an extraordinarily efficient research tool. It works systematically through textual variants, lexical issues and the interpretive questions raised by the Greek text, then collates the answers offered by a broad range of major commentaries and translations. Its particular value is in passages where several interpretations compete: Blight quickly shows what the alternatives actually are and which commentators defend each position. He deliberately does not decide which interpretation is best, so it cannot replace the exegetical judgment supplied by Nolland, Marshall or Bock, but as a means of mapping an exegetical problem before deeper investigation it saves an enormous amount of time.
