Genesis

Hendel’s Anchor Yale Bible commentary is a major contribution to the study of Genesis 1–11. It is particularly strong on textual criticism, the ancient versions, historical linguistics, comparative Semitics and the literary use of repeated words and motifs. Its historical-critical perspective and limited theological application will not suit every reader, but for detailed investigation of the language and textual history of the primeval narratives, it is exceptionally valuable and deserves serious engagement.
