Reviews
Duguid’s NIVAC volume is considerably more substantial than the series title might suggest and is one of the best evangelical commentaries on Ezekiel. The “Original Meaning” sections draw on serious scholarship—including Duguid’s own earlier research on leadership in Ezekiel—and he interacts intelligently with Greenberg, Zimmerli, Allen, Block and others rather than simply reproducing their conclusions. Particularly valuable is his insistence on interpreting the present text before attempting hypothetical reconstruction, and his treatment of chapters 40–48 as a vision expressed in legislative form rather than either a literal architectural programme or arbitrary allegory. This allows him to relate Ezekiel convincingly to Christ and the New Testament while still taking the original historical and literary context seriously. The application sections occasionally reflect the period in which the book was written, but overall the combination of exegesis, biblical theology and pastoral usefulness is exceptional.
A highly recommended commentary from a respected Ezekiel scholar. Duguid does a fine job tackling the difficulties of the book while maintaining a readable tone. He provoides an outstanding and insightful reflection on the theology of the book and its application for the church today.

Excellent. Accessible, clear, and, in many places, profound!
A decent pastoral option, though not one I go to often.
The NIV Application Commentary has some volumes that are much stronger than others and Duguid’s volume on Ezekiel is considered one of the best. Keith Mathison says, “Duguid’s commentary runs a very close second to Block in my estimation. For those who do not need the detail of Block, Duguid is the place to go. His is a very careful reading of the book from a Reformed perspective. Very helpful and highly recommended.” Other experts commend him for his pastoral tone.

This is a good Commentary but for easy to read but much more in depth commentary I would recommend Wright first. The format of the commentary makes it hard to read and choppy. But pastors studying a certain section or looking for application ideas will find help here.
I would highly recommend this commentary on Ezekiel. Duguid gives a thorough exposition of the text, and his comments pertaining to contemporary significance and application are simply excellent. This volume would be particularly valuable for pastors in sermon preparation. I would go so far as to say that if you could only buy one commentary on Ezekiel, this should be it.
Duguid's commentary runs a very close second to Block in my estimation. For those who do not need the detail of Block, Duguid is the place to go. His is a very careful reading of the book from a Reformed perspective. Very helpful and highly recommended.

olid, informed exposition of Hebrew text, whose theology and applications are grounded in a Reformed perspective. Evangelical.
