Morris is one of the major conservative commentaries on John. It’s a mine of quotable material replete with references to earlier academic works. [Full Review]

The experts agree that Carson’s is the best in the field, but there is also consensus that Leon Morris’ volume in the NICNT is excellent and an excellent complement to Carson’s work. If you buy it used, be sure to get the second edition (1995) rather than the first (1971) since it offers several important modifications and reflects some of the more recent theological questions and controversies. You may want to buy it soon as it has already been replaced by J. Ramsey Michaels’ work and is increasingly difficult to find. [Full Review]

I have the older version and it is far more useful than most recent commentaries. Pair this volume with Carson's on John and you will be doing well. I think they complement each other, because often where one might not address everything the other one will and vice versa. Excellent commentary.
Originally published in 1971, Leon Morris's commentary on the Gospel of John quickly became a standard of conservative evangelical scholarship on the book. In 1995, a completely revised and updated edition was published bringing the classic work up to date. Morris's work may have been overshadowed by more recent commentaries, but it remains one of the best and should be consulted. [Full Review]
