Hosea-Micah

Concise, but to the point of being a bit skimpy. Limburg is fine writer (see his Jonah commentary in OTL series). The goals of the interpretations series hamper this volume as the introductions have to be incredibly brief, and unable to provide any real overview or analysis of provisional questions. But for the general reader, the exposition itself covers the important theological points well.

A concise and helpful commentary. Well stated: "These texts are a call to be involved in political processes, to work from within existing structures, to invent new structures, all for the purpose of bringing about the realization of the vision" (184).

James Limburg's Interpretation (1988) offers a more pastoral perspective as opposed to some of his more academic work. Limburg's work on Jonah in the OTL series gets high marks from some.This commentary covers Hosea-Micah in a short enough volume that it has not a lot of space for each book. I would probably prefer Achtemeier's NIBC if I wanted an expositional commentary from a more mainline perspective. [Full Review]
