A gem with rich insight. Mathison says that “page for page, it is by far the most helpful commentary on 1 Peter.” Clowney believes no true Christian can escape at least a measure of suffering for Christ’s sake. He argues that Peter, out of his firsthand knowledge, shows us what Jesus’s cruciform life means for believers who must take their cross and follow him. [Full Review]

Edmund Clowney's work is incredible. He has a great way of providing big picture and still giving finer details. His approach to the controversial portions is excellent, and I love the way he goes about his presentation. Detailed, yet accessible, it's the best 1 Peter commentary I have read.

The Bible Speaks Today is an ideal series for the general reader, though it is also very helpful in sermon preparation. Edmund Clowney’s volume in 1 Peter is one of the best in the series. Keith Mathison commends it with these words: “Clowney’s commentary is not the most technical, nor the most exhaustive work on 1 Peter by any stretch. In fact, it is an introductory level work, accessible to any reader, but page for page, it is by far, the most helpful commentary on 1 Peter. Clowney packs more insight into one page than many commentaries pack into an entire chapter. This one is a must-have.” [Full Review]

Very good volume, as good as any in the BST series. Not indispensable, but I was happy to have it in my study.

There are several legitimate strengths to Clowney’s work. First, the devotional quality of the book is outstanding. It is apparent that the author has done his homework and is no slouch on the technical issues in the text. However, he wisely reserves these concerns for footnotes or appendices. Clowney’s intent in this work is noted in the opening sentence of the preface, “This exposition has been written in the hope that it will be read and not just consulted.” [Full Review]

This is an excellent easy to read commentary. Filled with both good interpretation and good application and devotional insights. It is perfect for the series it is in. Recommended both for understanding the text and its devotional insights.
One of the better expositions of this book Clowney gives a straightforward and helpful exposition of this significant epistle. This series is highly readable, and Clowney's contribution on I Peter is no different. He has clearly thought long and hard about most of what he says, even if some of the argumentation for his views is left out of the book. [Full Review]
