For detailed exegesis of Isaiah 40–55, Goldingay and Payne would be my first choice. The commentary is exceptionally strong in Hebrew philology, textual criticism, poetic structure and the close analysis of how individual passages function within their literary contexts. Its originality generally comes not from imposing a dramatic new theory on the material but from noticing features of the text that others have overlooked and patiently working through competing interpretations. This makes it especially valuable on the Servant passages, where the authors resist premature harmonization and allow the tensions and ambiguities of the text to remain visible. The price of this precision is density: it is not the easiest commentary to read continuously, and readers seeking theological synthesis will want to supplement it with Goldingay’s Message of Isaiah 40–55. But as a technical exegetical resource on these chapters, it is outstanding.
