DeRouchie has produced what is arguably the strongest evangelical commentary yet written on Zephaniah. Drawing on years of specialised research, he combines discourse analysis, literary structure, Hebrew exegesis, intertextuality, biblical theology, and canonical interpretation into a remarkably coherent whole. His treatment of the Day of the Lord, new creation, the reversal of Babel, and the gathering of the nations consistently deepens one’s understanding of Zephaniah’s message. While a few historical proposals invite discussion, they never dominate the commentary. Throughout, the volume succeeds in making a difficult prophetic book both intellectually stimulating and pastorally fruitful. An outstanding contribution to Zephaniah scholarship.
