The Book of Ezekiel: Volume 1

The Book of Ezekiel commences with the vision of the Celestial Chariot, representing the Divine Presence leaving the Temple. Although the prophet is in Babylon with the exile of Jeconiah, most of his prophecies are addressed to those remaining in the Holy Land, forewarning them of the impending destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. We read of numerous prephecies that the prophet dramatizes before the people, indicating the certainty of their realization. We read of the prophet's dramatization of the seige of Jerusalem. We see him lying on his side for an extended period to atone for the sins of the kingdom of Israel and Judah. We see him baking bread of various species of coarse grain, depicting the starvation diet of the inhabitants of the besieged city. We read of the abominations being commited in the Temple and of the angels coming to destroy it.
