Stewart’s EGGNT volume is an exceptionally useful companion for anyone working through Revelation in Greek. Rather than pretending that grammatical analysis can settle the book’s major interpretive controversies, Stewart carefully distinguishes what the Greek text can establish from the larger hermeneutical questions involving Old Testament fulfillment, symbolism and structure. His discussions of Revelation’s unusual syntax, verbal aspect, textual variants and especially its pervasive Old Testament allusions are concise but consistently helpful, and the structural analyses and homiletical suggestions make the volume unusually practical. By design it is not a full commentary and should be used alongside works such as Beale, Smalley, Osborne or Fanning. Within its intended role, however, it is one of the most useful resources currently available for close study of the Greek text.
