Vinson's insights are well stated and very helpful. However, his commentary on 1 Peter reads as a series of enormous essays. If you are specifically looking to examine a specific passage of 1 Peter it is difficult to easily ascertain his analysis of individual passages within a chapter. However, his Connections section for each chapter are theologically articulate and brutally honest about the situation in the American church. He writes, "If we took 1 Peter seriously, we would identify ourselves with those who truly are resident aliens or transients among us" (81). The Smyth & Helwys series, as a whole, does a fantastic job of organizing sidebars and garnering insight from a wide variety of voices. In his commentary on 1 Peter, Vinson quotes: Martin Luther, Miroslav Volf, Frederick Douglass, and many other voices.
