Product Description

In this popular commentary on the Gospel of John, first published in 1983, evangelical scholar F.F. Bruce leads readers through the rich and complex words of John the Evangelist with a careful verse-by-verse exposition of the Gospel’s text, its historical context, and its ongoing relevance for the Christian life.

Drawing on thirty years of research, Bruce introduces his commentary with discussions of the Gospel’s authorship, its significance for the early church, and its message. While based on solid biblical scholarship, this volume is especially suitable for general Christian readers interested in serious Bible study.

The Eerdmans Classic Biblical Commentaries series collects the best and most trusted Eerdmans commentaries from years gone by in a format that will make them available to readers for years to come. Some of the ECBC volumes were originally published in major commentary series, others more recently. Though written over the years for various levels of readers, the Eerdmans Classic Biblical Commentaries all have this in common: pastors, scholars, and serious students of the Bible continue to read them, study them, and rely on them to help unlock the meaning and message of the Scriptures.

In this classic commentary on the Gospel of John, first published in 1983, F. F. Bruce leads readers through the rich and complex words of John the Evangelist with a careful verse-by-verse exposition of the Gospel’s original text, its historical context, and its ongoing relevance for the Christian life.

Drawing on more than thirty years of study, Bruce introduces the volume with discussions of the Gospel’s authorship, its significance for the early church, and its message. The commentary proper is based on Bruce’s own translation of the Greek text, and the bibliography and notes point to resources for further study.
