I opened this incredible book to Chapter 28. Why not start at the highest point, right? And wow, was I blown away. Who can count how many times I have read that chapter, yet I still got tears and goose-bumps! Plus, the Great Commission in the clearest terms, through the eyes and words of someone who really understands the language and culture into which it was spoken. If you can only read one commentary this year, let it be this one!

If my comments on Chapter 28 do not catch your attention, then perhaps the brilliant discussion of Matthew's (and Luke's) genealogies with a fabulous explanation of the apparent differences, will.

Rabbi Barney Kasdan has penned "Matthew Presents Yeshua, King Messiah" so that even a layman can benefit from the Rabbi's worthy scholarship and sharp insight. I agree with Rabbi Dr. D. Friedman's assessment: "This commentary places the book of Matthew back where it belongs...into its historic Jewish context. I certainly recommend it as part of everyone's reference library." Pastor Ray Bentley echoes my enthusiasm in his review: "This is exactly the book I have been waiting for. The more I have discovered the Jewish roots of the scriptures, the more my eyes have been opened, the clearer my understanding of the heart of God, and the greater my passion for going even deeper into the Bible." Well done, Rabbi Kasdan - Mazel Tov!

Would highly recommend. Great study tool for the book of Matthew.

This commentary is excellent! As is his usual style, Rabbi Kasdan writes in clear, easy-to-understand form, and shares a wealth of knowledge! In bringing in Jewish tradition, we have a better understanding of what those who were listening to Yeshua's teaching actually heard and understood. The first basic rule of understanding the Scriptures in context, context, context. This commentary certainly gives us that! I had begun to study Matthew in my personal Bible study, but when I purchased this commentary, I started over. There was so much I missed, just because I didn't know the Jewish tradition. Just the explanation of the lineage of Yeshua, and how and why it differs in Luke's account was an eye-opener. You won't be disappointed. This commentary is rich in history, culture, and revelation of Scripture.

Awesome insight of Matthew through a Jewish lense. It deepened my understanding of Christ Jesus and the words He spoke.

Reading Rabbi Barney Kasdan's book opened up Bible scripture for me like nothing else! It has changed the way I read scripture as now I only want the messianic view of God's Word. Jews wrote the Bible (except for Luke, a Gentile who became a believer) and only they have the inside view of what it tells us (Christian and Jew alike). Wonderful first messianic book, but not my last!

one of the very few commentaries that allows us to understand better and more about Jesus instead of promoting some kind of invented philosophy which is then called theology. If someone does not believe in God, his theology cannot be anything but philosophy. Our academies seem not to be very much aware of this fact. This commentary speaks about God and his doings and explains, so we understand better and it proofs even on a high academic level, one can understand God.

It is great to have a book that looks at Matthew from a Jewish perspective. As one who likes to do serious Bible study, I have found that by looking at the Bible from a Hebrew point of view, you get a better perspective of what was really meant. A great book.

‘Mathew: Presents Yeshua, King Messiah’ by Rabbi Barney Kasdan is an insightful and engaging Messianic Commentary on the Good News according to Mathew that deepens the understanding of the Account of Mathew of Yeshua the Messiah. The book resonates with my own Messianic Jewish Journey. I definitely recommend ‘Mathew: Presents Yeshua, King Messiah’ by Rabbi Barney Kasdan as a very educative Messianic Jewish Resource for the worldwide Messianic Jewish movement of the new millennium and beyond.

A really excellent eye opener and in depth look and meaning within the book of Matthew. It reveals further the Jewishness of the Gospel and the fact that Jesus was not a white blue -eyed Caucasian. Beautiful book; every page is a revelation.

3.0 out of 5 stars the (Jewish) roots do not go deep.

what i liked most about this commentary was its almost conversational style. what I disliked most about it was its conversational style. In some regards it is quite simplistic. I would like to see lots more footnoting and referencing. Strangely passages I expected to see a large commentary for for example the sermon on the mount are quickly moved over and did not go into great depth.

As an introduction to Matthew I am sure it is fine, but I would encourage people to purchase by such as Brad Young's Meet the Rabbis, Jesus the Jewish Theologian and his cracking work on the parables coupled with Sanders' book Jesus and Judaism.

If this commentary could adopt some of this material it would be absolutely first rate.
