- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2021The most thoroughly exegetical work I could imagine on the topic. The Winstons leave no stone unturned, and they are neither swayed by tradition nor by social trends. The work responds directly to the most prominent scholars in the complementarian realm -- namely Piper & Grudem's Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood -- as well to the most common objections in both traditionalist and feminist camps. The Winstons arrive at a biblical conclusion that surprisingly has not been covered enough, and that I believe is the most compelling: affirming women in official leadership in the church and affirming husband headship in the home. This could be referred to as "1-point complementarian."
Do you believe any of the following?
- that Divinity is male;
- that woman was the one primarily responsible for the fall;
- that patriarchy is God's model for human society and therefore inevitable;
- that authority is inherent in maleness;
- that public life is for men and private life for women;
- that women were created with a nature fitted for submission;
- that there is a spiritual and religious difference between men and women;
- that maleness is superior to femaleness;
- that a woman should never be in a position of spiritual authority over a man;
- that the priestly ministry in its essence is tied to maleness.
Think again.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2013Devastating critique of complementarianism, but I personally find the argument for personal authority of husbands over wives uncompelling. In any case, filled with great information and argumentation, highly recommended. Lots of original insight here. Don't let the self-publish label scare you; it's great research.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2012I have read many, many books on this subject. This is far and away the best book I have seen. George and Dora are careful to be true the Biblical Text and insist on looking at what ALL of the Bible has to say on the subject, not just a few passages. They insist on applying the direct statements of Scripture rather than merely accepting traditional cultural views. The best part is, there is NO attempt to distort the Scriptures to fit a certain view point. One friend told me he knew a man who was ardently opposed to women in ministry and yet admitted that this book gave him pause. It is refreshing and freeing to read such careful and sound exposition. Men and women will both appreciate it. It is a must read.

3.0 out of 5 stars great study into women and biblical ministry
As yet i have not read through complete book but, most of it.
if your are looking for an in depth information, from a biblical view point this book will help with your studies. Over 500 hundred pages, sorry to say not all of it is sound christan doctrine, but there is plenty you can glean from this book.
As with all books concerning bible matters, always remember the bible, rightly divided and in contexts is you final authority on Christian doctrine and truths.
Before I approached this book, I already believed that is was sound teaching to allow women to teach, preach and lead in ministry, both over both men and women. If they have the gift and are called by God.
This book as just added more flesh to what i already knew was right.. Please note I don't agreed with the writers thoughts concerning head covering or divorce and remarriage, marriage is for life (until death) and head covering is still applicable while praying or prophesying for women and men must not cover their heads while praying or prophesying even today.
So far thumbs up , but with caution, There are lots of scriptural reference to back women right to teach lead and preach. This book is for women who are being held back by error and blindness off men without the leading of Christ and the holy spirit. Teachers in church, pastors and elders would, benefit from this book.
remember to remove the stones out of the rice and filter every thing through the lens of the Holy spirit.
A book worth buying to get a more in depth understanding of women right to minister, teach and lead in church.
This book supports neither egalitarianism or complementarianism and is a great resource for people who take God word serious. bit pricey but plenty to chew on and lots to learn.
I Downgraded my stars due to the authors serious error concerning divorce and remarriage, Christ nor the apostles allows for divorce and remarriage while your first spouse is still alive this is adultery(sin)and puts you in danger of hell fire.
