Michael S. Heiser is a scholar in the fields of biblical studies and the ancient Near East. Dr. Heiser earned his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004. He also earned an M.A. in the same field at Wisconsin, along with an M.A. in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania (major fields: Ancient Israel and Egyptology).

Dr. Heiser is currently the Executive Director and Professor at the Awakening School of Theology and Ministry with Celebration Church in Jacksonville, FL. Before accepting his current position, Mike taught on the college and seminary level for over 20 years and was Scholar-in-Residence for Logos Bible Software for 15 years.

Dr. Heiser is the author of several best-selling books: The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible; its shorter companion work, Supernatural: What the Bible Teaches about the Unseen World and Why it Matters; Angels: What the Bible Really Teaches About God’s Heavenly Host; and Reversing Hermon: Enoch, the Watchers, and the Forgotten Mission of Jesus Christ. He has also written over 100 articles for Bible Study Magazine and has several peer-reviewed articles in academic journals.

Dr. Heiser is known for intentionally exposing non-specialists interested in biblical studies, theology, and ancient texts to peer-reviewed material in all these areas. To that end he hosts the popular Naked Bible Podcast, which passed five million downloads in 2019. His non-profit corporation, MIQLAT, provides free translations of his biblical studies content in over twenty languages.

Lastly, Dr. Heiser is well known for his interest in the paranormal and alternative history. He has been a guest on dozens of talk shows and podcasts that focus on the fringe. Through his fiction (The Facade, The Portent), his Peeranormal podcast, and his YouTube Channel, Fringepop321, he tries to promote critical thinking in regard to this subject matter.

‘The 60 Second Scholar: 100 Insights That Illuminate the Bible,’ is the third of Dr. Heiser’s ‘60 Second Scholar’ series I have read. Like the other two it contains a solid set of insights in to the Bible. These insights are organized around the notion than many people read the Bible with problematic or ill thought through assumptions. The book is organized around various sections of the Bible. The reader is invited to let each section, or genre, be what it is. While this might seem obvious, anyone who has been around Bible reading folks long enough knows that many of us need of more clarity and common sense in our approach to the Bible. One may not agree with Dr. Heiser’s take on some issues but he will at least press you to evaluate your own views.

Bible study void of biases and traditions, creeds and denominational worldviews have destroyed the original intent, message and purposes of the Scriptures. Dr Heiser helps you to remove the safety packaging on your bible, knocks down the security barriers around the Word and exposes you to the unprotected, unadulterated Word of God. If you're tired of being protected from your bible, then this book will empower you to take on the text and let it alone form your beliefs and shape your doctrine.

I learned lot from https book, one minute at a time. Dr Heiser has brought topics only learned in theological schools to everyone! It's a kind of new reformation for everyone who will listen. His books are opening doors on subjects most ministers don't even understand. God bless you Dr Heiser.

This is an essential book to read daily - as it takes only a minute but it packs in SO MUCH powerful theology in approaching the Bible, doctrine, etc. on a scholarly level. It's easy to read and it can help the layman think and have insights only theological students are privy to.

We often fail to realize the Bible was written in real time by real people. So far (about half way) it is a valuable tool.

I like the authors approach to scripture. It is both academic and accessible while remaining faithful to the spirit of the Bible. I never feel like I'm being challenged to discredit the Bible, just interpret it more precisely. He encourages me to be a good thinker with his writing.
