Overview

Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this new commentary series, projected to be 48 volumes, takes a Christ-centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition. Exalting Jesus in Exodus is written by Tony Merida.

Top Highlights

“Second, we need to understand God’s redemption better.” (source)

“Finally, we need to draw lessons for living out our faith on a daily basis” (source)

“Third, the nations were being blessed through the seed of Abraham (Gen 12:2). In Exod 12:38 the text says, ‘An ethnically diverse crowd also went up with them.’ This means that many who were not descendants from Abraham or Israel joined the Israelites as they left Egypt (Stuart, Exodus, 303). They saw the signs and believed!” (Exodus 12:33–42)

“Notice: they were at Horeb, which is called ‘the mountain of God.’ This is a natural name for the mountain because of what happened there: God showed up. It seems to be the same place as Mt. Sinai, where Moses later received the Ten Commandments. God drew Moses to this place in order to reveal Himself to him.” (Exodus 3:1–6)

“Therefore, our hope and power does not come from our law keeping but from His law keeping. He lived the life we could not live (keeping the law) then died the death we should have died (for our law breaking). That is why we love Jesus.” (Exodus 19:1–20:21)
